College Roundup : Chapman Wins CCAA Men’s Tennis Championship

The Chapman College men’s tennis team clinched its second straight California Collegiate Athletic Assn. championship Tuesday by defeating Cal State Bakersfield, 9-0, at Chapman.
Miles Walker, the Panthers’ No. 1 singles player, led Chapman (17-11 overall, 9-1 in conference play) with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bakersfield’s Kevin Thornton.
In nonconference women’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Loyola Marymount 2--Host Irvine (18-6) was led by Courtney Weichsel, who defeated Kris Anderson, 6-0, 6-2, and Kathy Rose, who beat Doreen Delgado, 6-1, 6-2.
Kelly Goldsborough, Karin Bering and Stacey Cadigan added victories in singles matches for Irvine.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball action:
Southern California College 10, Point Loma Nazarene 7--SCC broke open a 3-3 tie by scoring seven runs in the third inning at Point Loma. SCC had seven consecutive hits in the inning.
The big blow was a three-run homer by Steve Milledge. Carlos Salazar’s three-run homer in the first gave SCC (16-23-1, 10-8) a 3-0 lead. But Point Loma tied it with three in the bottom of the first.
Josh Johnson went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Robert Mansfield (5-4) struck out six and walked four to get the win.
