Local News in Brief : San Juan Capistrano : Auto Strikes Bicyclist, Driver Held as Drunk

A bicyclist suffered major head and neck injuries when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver on Coast Highway, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
The man was in serious condition at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, officials said. His name was not available, but authorities said he was about 30 years old.
The driver of the car, Jeffrey Newman, 40, of Dana Point, was not injured. He was booked in County Jail on suspicion of felony drunk driving.
The accident happened about 9:20 p.m. Monday when Newman’s car swayed into the bicycle lane and struck the cyclist, a CHP officer said.
