Pier 1 Imports, a chain of 350 stores that sell imported gifts and home furnishings, said it has received an unsolicited buyout offer and has hired the investment firm of Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. to evaluate it and other alternatives. Pier 1, based in Ft. Worth, is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Its stock closed up $1.625 at $10.375 on Tuesday. The company is 50% owned by Intermark, a La Jolla-based holding company.
