Passenger Dies; Police Seek Driver of Car
The passenger in a car that struck a utility pole and burst into flames early Sunday morning died of his injuries and San Diego police were seeking the driver of the car, who fled the scene on foot.
The San Diego County coroner’s office identified the victim as Zeferino Mendoza Salgado, a 26-year-old transient, who died at UC San Diego Medical Center’s emergency room.
The accident occured in the 800 block of South 32nd Street.
A spokesman for the San Diego Police Department said that when officers arrived at the scene, the driver was gone.
