Miami’s Joe Robbie Stadium is the leader among U.S. facilities bidding to become the host for a possible staging of the 1994 World Cup finals, an official of soccer’s governing body said.

“It’s a magnificent stadium that has everything,†said Ernie Walker, a member of FIFA’s five-member technical committee. “It has to be considered the leader so far.â€

The United States is competing with Brazil and Morocco to hold the world’s largest sporting event. Italy is scheduled to be the host for the 52-game, monthlong tournament in 1990.
