Local News in Brief : Arbor Day Foundation Honors City for Trees
- Share via
The city has been formally designated a “Tree City U.S.A.,” a national honor bestowed by the Nebraska-based National Arbor Day Foundation.
The City Council this week was presented a Tree City U.S.A. flag and other recognition materials by Eric Oldar of the California Department of Forestry.
The city had qualified for the designation, Oldar said, by meeting these standards: having a city tree ordinance, a tree governing body, a comprehensive urban forestry program and observation of Arbor Day in March.
It is the first time Irvine has received the Tree City designation.
