‘Snow Queen’
Finland, 1986, 88 minutes , noon Paivi Hartzell’s version of the famous fairy tale--about a boy kidnaped by the Snow Queen, and his sister’s odyssey to save him--often lacks fiber and real humanity beneath its plummy, overripe, candy-brittle surfaces. Watching it is like being stuffed with sugarplums--though the actors, for once, overpower the effects.
