Sugar Ray Leonard, a gold medalist at the 1976 Olympics Games, was named an adviser to the U.S. Olympic boxing staff for the Olympics at Seoul, South Korea, Sept. 17-Oct. 2.
The announcement was made by Col. Don Hull, president of the USA Amateur Boxing Federation, during the U.S. Championships at Colorado Springs, Colo.
“Winning the gold medal is a very special moment in my life, and I want to help ensure that the members of the USA’s team in Seoul have that same opportunity,” Leonard said at a news conference.
Leonard, 31, will attend selected training camps and events to observe workouts and assist U.S. Olympic Coach Ken Adams and his staff.
