Chapman Rally Falls Short in 6-5 Loss
Senior right-hander Erick Bratlien pitched a complete game and struck out 10 to lead Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to a 6-5 victory over Chapman College Wednesday in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball game at Hart Park in Orange.
Bratlien allowed nine hits and walked four as Cal Poly earned a split of its two-game series with Chapman and evened its conference record at 6-6. Mustang catcher Doug Noce was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a walk.
David Bird started and went 5 innings for Chapman, allowing only 2 hits with 7 strikeouts and 5 walks. Steve Halweg (3-2) took the loss in relief.
Trailing, 6-2, in the bottom of the ninth, Chapman (18-13-1, 7-3) scored three runs on walks by Steve Guidice and Steve Pickering and singles by Bryan Beals and Jeff Kidwiler, but Bratlien struck out Bucky Bollinger with Kidwiler on first to end the game.
