A San Diego Harbor Police officer suffered minor injuries after being run over by a motorcyclist he attempted to stop on Shelter Island Drive early Wednesday, authorities said.

Officer Gary Leeson was treated at UC San Diego Medical Center for minor bumps and bruises after the incident near the 1900 block of Shelter Island Drive, Harbor Police Officer Robert Mickschl said.

San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said Leeson and his partner, Russell Miller, were on foot patrol when they attempted to stop the driver of a motorcycle traveling with its lights off.

Robinson said the motorcyclist turned around and headed toward Leeson. When the two collided, Robinson said, Leeson grabbed the driver and pulled him to the ground. Miller was not hurt.

Robinson said Patrick T. Moore, 27, address unknown, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, failure to yield and driving while intoxicated.
