California Riviera of Dana Point is forming a task force to help drum up tourist trade for the south Orange County coastal resort strip.
The promotions company hopes the task force will attract people from nearby hotels and restaurants who can “determine what needs to be done” to promote the area from Laguna Beach to Laguna Niguel to Dana Point, said Liz Elliott, a spokeswoman.
California Riviera, a private firm, intends to work as a chamber of commerce and visitors’ bureau for the area. The strip will soon have three hotels: the Ritz-Carlton, the Dana Point Resort and an as-yet unnamed complex being built by Hemmeter Corp. and Stein-Brief Group.
Since California Riviera opened four years ago, Elliott admitted, “Everybody has been mostly arm-waving.”
Eventually, Elliott said, California Riviera hopes that hotels and restaurants will join forces to advertise the strip as a destination for domestic and foreign travel.
