OPEC’s special monitoring committee will meet April 9, the cartel announced, although oil traders were skeptical it would be able to perform a miracle and push prices higher. Last week, Rilwanu Lukman, president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, announced that the pricing committee--comprised of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Algeria and Venezuela--will meet next month, but the Nigerian oil minister said no date had yet been set. The committee, which has the power to call for a full conference of the 13 member nations, will review OPEC production over the past three months.
