Local News in Brief : Police Detonate Device Found Near Business
The Los Angeles police bomb squad detonated an explosive device Sunday in Chatsworth after it was found in front of a Granada Hills business, authorities said.
The bomb was found by a passer-by at the front door of an undisclosed commercial business in the 11000 block of Balboa Boulevard. Officials released few details of the 5:30 p.m. incident, which is being investigated by the Police Department’s Criminal Conspiracy Unit.
Police said experts decided to detonate the device, which they declined to describe, rather than attempt to defuse it. Police said it was taken to a secluded spot near the unused Winnetka Avenue exit from the Simi Valley Freeway and exploded about 7 p.m.
