Stedman to Head Panel Seeking New Conductor

Preston Stedman, a professor of music at Cal State Fullerton and a Pacific Symphony board member, will chair the committee to find a replacement for Keith Clark as music director of the Santa Ana-based orchestra.
Stedman said Tuesday that the committee will include three board members, one representative from the orchestra elected by the musicians, and one person outside the organization who is “knowledgeable about the conducting business.” Stedman hired Clark as associate professor of music at Cal State Fullerton in 1978 and has been active with the orchestra since its formation in 1979.
Clark resigned his post last month after the board voted not to renew his contract, but will remain music director through the 1988-89 season.
