Katharine Hepburn does not often attend fund-raisers, but this one was special. In fact, the actress was “enthusiastic” about the New York gala for Planned Parenthood to honor her and her late mother, Katharine Houghton Hepburn, for their outspoken support of birth control, said Winston Forrest, vice president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “She felt her mother deserved the honoring,” he said. Proceeds from the black-tie dinner, priced at $500 to $1,000 a ticket, will be used for three Hepburn priorities: keeping abortion safe and legal, preventing teen-age pregnancies and preserving family planning for the poor. Her mother worked alongside Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger more than 70 years ago.
