A tanker truck loaded with 7,500 gallons of gasoline overturned and burned as it passed through downtown Santa Barbara on U.S. 101, injuring the driver and blocking the route for hours. Despite the fierce fire, the driver was the only injury reported in the 3 a.m. crash, a fire official said. Gary Shawgo, 40, believed to be from Ojai, suffered a fractured spine and was taken to Goleta Valley Community Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The crash blocked the state’s major coastal route for several hours. All lanes were reopened by 9:25 a.m.
