Critique of the Art Critic
In response to Cathy Curtis’ completely negative article “All Media 88: First Annual Juried Exhibition†(Calendar, Feb. 22), I’d like to set the record straight. The guild is a nonprofit organization which supports scholarships yearly to further art students’ careers in the community, and sponsors various art activities.
The Irvine Fine Arts Center and the Irvine Creative Arts Guild should be commended and applauded for their first undertaking of an open exhibition for all area artists, which involved a great deal of hard-working volunteers and center employees and advanced planning.
I sincerely hope the public and art viewer has not been influenced incorrectly (by Curtis’ review) and will take in this exhibit and form their own opinion. The show is on until March 19 in Irvine’s Fine Arts Center.
As a serious Orange County artist (who does not live in a vacuum and is much involved), I enjoy all ranges of art. And as an individual, I resent being put into a mold (being described as an old-fashioned Ella). I admire your honesty but feel very strongly that you went too far and really owe us all an apology.
