Red Garlic May Be Referred to as Pink, Purple
Times Staff Writer
Question: The recipe for pizzeta con aglio in the Jan. 24 Los Angeles Times Magazine calls for red garlic. What is red garlic and where do I get it?
Answer: Red garlic may also be referred to as pink, purple, Mexican or Italian garlic because of the color of the outer skin. It is available at Sorrento Market, 5518 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City, which specializes in Italian food products. According to Albert Vera of the market, this variety is stronger than the more commonly available white-skinned garlic.
