Fiero Sales Cool, GM to Drop It
From Reuters
DETROIT — General Motors Corp. said today its Pontiac division will drop the plastic-bodied Fiero sports car model at the end of the 1988 model year and shut the Pontiac, Mich., plant that makes it, idling 1,109 workers. GM cited slow sales for the halt. The Fiero, whose heavy use of plastic in side-panels and other key parts of the car body was viewed by some as the wave of the future, suffered a sharp drop-off in popularity after a strong reception when it was launched in 1983.
