Community College Baseball : Rancho Santiago Pours It on San Bernardino

Bob Hamlin of Rancho Santiago College finished off the Riverside Tournament in the same manner in which he began it--with a hot bat.

Hamlin drove in five runs in Sunday’s championship game, as Rancho Santiago buried San Bernardino Valley, 20-1 at Riverside City College. The game was called after 6 1/2 innings, when San Bernardino ran out of pitchers.

Rancho Santiago (12-0) had 17 hits and scored in every inning, including eight times in the sixth. It was the Dons’ largest margin of victory this season.

In four tournament games, Hamlin went 7-for-11 with 2 home runs, 9 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. He was walked seven times during the tournament

For his performance, Hamlin was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

Hamlin drove in five runs Sunday on three hits, including a home run. Craig Washington went 3-for-3, had 2 RBIs and scored 5 runs. Rich Gonzales was 3-for-4, with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Jack Bailey went the distance, allowing only an unearned run and nine hits, to pick up the victory.

In a game played Saturday night, Rancho Santiago defeated San Bernardino (9-7), 14-8 in the semifinals of the championship bracket.
