Ex-Army Football Star Pete Dawkins Plans Run for Senate
TINTON FALLS, N.J. — Former Army football star Peter Dawkins today announced his candidacy for the GOP Senate nomination in a bid to unseat Democratic Frank Lautenberg, saying New Jersey needs to improve its environment, education, employment and trade.
“We’ve gone from being a state that was written off to a state being written up. And we’re ready to climb even higher to become the very best,†said Dawkins, who was a Rhodes scholar and Vietnam War hero after he graduated from West Point.
He is the first candidate to announce his candidacy in the June 7 Republican primary.
Dawkins has never sought elected office but has spent more than a year planting the seeds of his candidacy around the state.
