Fatal Blast Rips Barn in IRA Area

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — A powerful explosion ripped apart a barn today in the Irish Republican Army’s “bandit country†and police said there were a number of deaths.
“We found body parts but the explosion was so powerful we don’t know how many people were killed,†a police spokesman said. Police sources said the explosion apparently occurred prematurely while an IRA squad was preparing a bomb attack.
