Police said Sunday that they had not determined the cause of an argument that left one member of a Logan Heights family dead and two others wounded.

The shooting occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday when several men who had just arrived at a nearby residence for a family reunion were confronted by another man in an alley in the 2900 block of National Avenue. After a brief argument, the suspect grabbed a gun from a car and opened fire on the group.

Jose Espinosa, 28, was killed by a blast to the chest, a police spokesman said. Antonio Sanchez, 51, suffered leg wounds, while his nephew, Ernesto Sanchez, 26, received multiple wounds to his upper body and was listed in fair condition at the UC San Diego Medical Center Sunday night, police said. Antonio Sanchez was released from the hospital early Sunday.

Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers sealed off the area after the shooting. About three hours later, officers arrested Lee Roy Garcia, 25, of San Diego.

Garcia is being held in the County Jail on suspicion of murder and two counts of attempted murder, police said.
