A man was arrested after he called police from a pay phone outside police headquarters to report that he had allegedly beaten a man to death with an ashtray, police spokesman Rick Carlson said Tuesday.
Michael Lee Williams, 28, was booked in connection with the beating death of Jackson Lee Harris, 42, at the apartment complex at 2027 Front St., Carlson said.
Williams called police about 1 a.m. Tuesday from a phone at 1401 Broadway to report that he had “killed someone,†Carlson said.
Williams told police where he was and officers detained him moments later.
In the apartment, police found the nude body, later identified as Harris by deputy coroner Cal Vine. Williams lived in the apartment, Vine said.
“The man had apparently been beaten with an ashtray,†Carlson said.
