Heaven Will Have to Wait for Another St. John

Jim Murray sees a boring game. Bob Oates sees yet another logical conclusion: Denver’s personnel deficiency and the genius of the Redskin organization. Nothing is ever surprising in Herr Doktor’s eyes.

Eddie Robinson sees Doug Williams’ dream performance as vindication for some of his other quarterbacks who never got to the National Football League, let alone star in a Super Bowl. But, doesn’t this take something away from Williams’ individual accomplishment in such a pressure game? Isn’t it more a personal vindication of a grossly underrated quarterback who had to serve his pro apprenticeship for so long with an inferior team?

John Elway sees his Waterloo as a problem with his receivers getting off the line of scrimmage. He thinks he did his best. For John’s sake, I hope he didn’t. Whatever he thinks, he’s still no Dan Marino.
