American Cyanamid Co.’s earnings grew 36% to $275.6 million for 1987, compared to the previous year. Worldwide sales for 1987 reached a record $4.17 billion, up 9% compared to 1986. The Wayne, N.J.-based biotechnology and chemical firm reported that net was up 16% to $60.2 million in the fourth quarter. The company attributed the results to an $11.6-million gain from discontinued operations, market acceptance of new products and technology from the company’s research, local currency sales increases in international markets and the favorable effect of foreign exchange.
