A federal magistrate in Salt Lake City refused to set bail for three members of a polygamous clan charged in the bombing of a Mormon chapel that ignited a deadly 13-day standoff with lawmen. Saying they might flee if released, U.S. Magistrate Ronald Boyce said Vickie Singer, her son John Timothy Singer and Jonathan Swapp, the brother of the clan’s wounded co-leader, would remain behind bars during proceedings. The other suspect, Addam Swapp, 27, is hospitalized after being wounded in a Jan. 28 shoot-out that ended the standoff. A state corrections officer was killed in the gun fight.
