Cal State Dominguez Hills rediscovered its offense Saturday night and picked up its first win of 1988.

The Toros, winless since New Year’s Eve, snapped a six-game losing streak with a 68-58 win over Cal Poly Pomona.

Dominguez Hills, which had won only one previous road game this season (that came in early December) is now 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. The loss dropped Pomona (3-2, 8-10 overall) out of a share of the conference lead.

The victory was particularly sweet for Dominguez Hills Coach Dave Yanai, who sat through one of the more futile games of his career Thursday night when the Toros humiliated themselves in a mistake-riddled 62-52 loss to visiting UC Riverside.

“I’m telling you, this was great,†said Yanai. “We waited so long for this win. We needed it very badly.â€

If the events of Thursday were to be forgotten, the action on Saturday may be something the Toros will remember for awhile.

They shot better, got the offensive rebounds they were looking for and they cut down on their turnover ratio. Thursday night the team committed 13 first-half turnovers. Saturday they had only six.

Dominguez Hills grabbed an early 17-15 lead on a jumper by center Anthony Blackmon and never relinquished it.
