With just an hour’s notice to the musicians, the Vancouver (British Columbia) Symphony canceled the rest of its 1987-1988 season, laid off 76 full-time musicians and placed itself in receivership because of a $1.7-million debt. “We just ran out of money and we couldn’t continue,†symphony society president Dennis Culver said Wednesday.
