Wickes Cos. said management of its Wickes Lumber retail subsidiary was unable to secure funds necessary to complete a buyout of the 241-store chain that was announced last month. Wickes added that it has sent Drexel Burnham Lambert, its financial adviser, a list of parties who have asked about the division’s sale. For the year ended Jan. 31, Wickes Lumber had sales of about $1 billion.
