Orange League : Chaffin’s Shots Lead Brea-Olinda Rally in 70-69 Victory

Reserve guard David Chaffin scored his only points of the game on two free throws with 11 seconds remaining to help Brea-Olinda High School defeat Western, 70-69, Friday night as the Wildcats used a fourth-quarter rally to gain the victory.
Chaffin’s shots put the Wildcats (10-8, 3-1) up by four and enabled them to withstand a three-pointer by San Sabara for Western (10-6, 2-2) at the buzzer.
Brea-Olinda trailed, 53-40, at the end of three quarters but rallied as Keith Walker scored 11 of his 20 points and David Hole scored 7 of his 15. The Wildcats made 11 of 17 shots in the fourth quarter.
The effort ruined the night for Western’s Chris Bowen, who scored 37 points and made 6 three-pointers.
Savanna 86, Magnolia 52--Eric Shinkle scored 17 points, Justin Paule had 16 and Robby Booker had 14 as Savanna rolled past Magnolia at Savanna.
Savanna built a 22-9 first-quarter lead, and Booker hit three three-pointers near the end of the first half to give Savanna (16-3, 4-0) a commanding 20-point lead.
Savanna shot 54% from the floor, hitting 29 of 54 shots. The Rebels’ Richard Kemple had 14 assists.
Magnolia’s Mike Goff, Orange County’s leading scorer, had only 10 points but he did not play the second half. Magnolia is 7-10 and 1-3.
Valencia 64, Anaheim 39--Bernie James scored 17 points, as the host Tigers (8-9, 2-2) dominated the Colonists. Valencia led, 35-17, at halftime and outscored Anaheim, 14-6, in the third quarter. Marcus Mitchell scored 14 points for the Colonists (0-4, 1-13).
