Gov. George Deukmejian on Friday appointed Michael S. Carona of Orange to the California Student Aid Commission.
Carona, 32, if confirmed by the state Senate, will replace Sheridan Hegland of La Mesa, whose term on the commission expired.
The 15-member commission administers the Cal Grant student aid program and advises the governor and the Legislature on state and federal programs to aid California’s college and university students.
Carona has been a lieutenant for the Orange County marshal’s office since 1985. He was a deputy marshal in 1976-85.
A Republican, Carona graduated with a degree in management from the University of Redlands in 1980 and has a master’s degree in public administration from the same university.
His term would expire Oct. 30, 1990.
