Crespi Fills Football Schedule by Adding San Fernando, Muir
After trying in vain for four months to complete his football team’s schedule, Crespi Coach Bill Redell filled the vacancies within an hour Thursday afternoon.
The Celts will play San Fernando in their third game next season and Muir in their fifth game, then face Mater Dei in their Del Rey League bye week. Redell and Muir officials settled on their teams’ meeting minutes after Redell received an offer from San Fernando.
The bye in league play was created by Notre Dame’s departure and subsequent move to the newly formed San Fernando Valley League.
“We’ve been trying to get games since August,†Redell said. “Nobody wants to play us.â€
Crespi will again open with Redlands, which tied the Celts last season, knocking them out of the No. 1 position in a national poll.
Redell, however, likes the prospect of a more-difficult nonleague schedule.
“It will get us ready for our league games,†Redell said. “Not that we did badly in league, but we would have liked a tougher schedule.â€
