Baby-Sitter Arrested in Death of Infant
A 27-year-old Canyon Country woman was arrested Friday on suspicion of killing a 5-month-old boy she was baby-sitting, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reported.
Vickie Maas was arrested a few hours after David Allen Duncan died about 2 p.m. in the intensive-care unit of Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, said Sgt. Ernie Roop, a spokesman for the department.
Maas was being held without bail at the sheriff’s station in Santa Clarita.
Maas told investigators that she found Duncan passed out on the living-room couch of her Poppy Meadow Street home about 7:30 a.m., Roop said. The infant was not breathing when paramedics arrived, he said, and was rushed by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. He was later transferred.
He said an autopsy is pending. The infant’s parents, Karen and Larry Duncan, live in Canyon Country.
