Local News in Brief : 2 School Forums Planned
Two high schools in the South Bay--Banning and Gardena--will be host for community forums on proposals to convert more campuses in the Los Angeles Unified School District to year-round education. Both forums will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 7.
Teachers and school coordinators will review the district’s problem with overcrowding and outline various options, including year-round schools, for relieving it. The audience will be able to participate in the discussion during a question-and-answer period.
A week after the forums, which are being held throughout the district, the Board of Education’s community affairs committee will hold hearings in each of the system’s regions.
In the South Bay, the committee hearing will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 at White Junior High School, 22102 S. Figueroa St., Carson. People who wish to speak on the year-round issue will be asked to sign up at the beginning of the meeting.
