Pasadena : A Final Message of Love
A Torrance man is planning to offer a poignant message to his late wife on New Year’s Day when a plane skywrites the message, “Goodby Beryl,†over the Rose Parade.
The message is a tribute to Beryl Brian from her husband of 41 years, Jack Brian, and daughter Jacqui Brian, 23. Beryl Brian died Oct. 10 of breast cancer at age 61.
Brian, a 61-year-old retired engineer, said he got the idea for the message as he and his daughter were driving home from the hospital the morning his wife died and saw a plane skywrite the letter “J.â€
“We felt that Beryl was telling us that she was still watching over us, so we thought we would return the message,†Brian said.
“I never had a chance to say goodby because Beryl thought she was going to live,†he added. “I did so much want to take her in my arms and tell her how grateful I was for our 40-year adventure together. But I couldn’t say it because she was still fighting for her life.â€
