Oil Company Official Detained in Nigeria Rejoins His Family
SAN ANTONIO — An oil company executive imprisoned for more than three months in Nigeria was reunited with his family on Christmas Eve after a good Samaritan offered him a ride from fogged-in Houston, his son said.
Herbert Rooks was 200 miles from his son’s home in San Antonio after taking a flight from London to Houston, but fog Wednesday night prevented his connecting flight from leaving.
Another San Antonio-bound traveler offered him a ride, and Rooks rejoined his family Thursday, his son Tom said.
Rooks, 58, a director of New York City-based United States Oil Co. and president of the company’s Geneva-based affiliate Panoco, was detained and prevented from leaving Nigeria because of a contract dispute.
