The Nation : Texas Hit by Tornadoes, Thunderstorms
Several tornadoes were reported in Texas as a cold front crossing the southern plains produced severe thunderstorms in central and eastern parts of the state. The tornadoes included one near Elgin, one near Hallettsville, one at Vienna, another near Sealy and a fifth northwest of Houston, the National Weather Service said. Wind gusting to 90 m.p.h. was reported at Venus. Wind downed power lines at Hamilton, damaged several homes at Cranfills Gap and uprooted trees near McGregor, the weather service said. At Lovelace, wind overturned a mobile home and destroyed it while four people were inside, slightly injuring a child, officials said. In Corsicana, wind damaged the roofs of several businesses, authorities said.
