The city’s senior citizens housing project has been selected by the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission as the outstanding project of the year.

The 150-unit project, 225 N. Crescent Drive, sits atop street-level retail shops and an underground public parking lot.

The commission administers more than $30 million in federal community development block grant funds for the unincorporated areas of the county and 43 participating cities. Ruth Nadel, deputy director of the city’s Planning and Community Development Division, said the city spent more than $1 million, or 40% of its total block grant funds, on the project.

The housing project was built and is managed by the Menorah Housing Foundation, an arm of the nonprofit Jewish Federation Council.
