THE PREPS : Girls’ Basketball Roundup : Mission Viejo Defeats Edison in Tournament
Kristen Okura scored 16 points Monday night to lead Mission Viejo High School to a 60-47 victory over Edison in the second round of the Savanna Tournament.
Edison led, 36-35, midway through the third quarter, but was outscored, 25-11, during the final 12 minutes.
Shannon Morgan and Tricia Stringham each scored 10 points and Jennifer Rohrig had 14 rebounds for Mission Viejo (7-1).
Krisden Tanabe had 14 points and Stefani Moorman had 10 for the Chargers (5-2).
In other second round games:
Mater Dei 55, Orange 26--Claudia Morris scored 14 points to lead the Monarchs. Mater Dei led, 16-6, after one quarter and, 27-11, at halftime. Janet Rensing and Kelly O’Brien each scored 10 points for the Monarchs (5-2). Alisa East had 11 points for Orange.
Redlands 60, Westminster 49--Westminster’s Shannon Bates, a senior guard, led all scorers with 26 points, but Redlands’ inside strength late in the game led to the victory in a second-round game. Wendy Luebbers led Redlands with 18 points. Westminster is 3-4.
Marina 58, Norco 28--The Vikings were led by Dawn Charroin, who had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
La Quinta 70, Colton 31--Sophomore Amy Jalewalia had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals to lead the Aztecs (4-1). Teammate Donna Gondringer added 18 points. La Quinta led by eight at halftime, and then outscored the Yellow Jackets, 45-14 in the second half.
