The Nation : Tornado Kills at Least Two in Arkansas
A tornado wrecked an apartment complex, truck stop, motel and dozens of homes in West Memphis, Ark., killing at least two people and sending rescue workers scrambling through the rubble looking for victims. Officials said at least two people died and 60 were injured in West Memphis, and authorities across the Mississippi River in Tennessee said at least 15 to 20 homes were demolished in the Memphis suburb of North Haven. State officials were working to confirm reports of fatalities there. A county Fire Department dispatcher said a temporary shelter was set up for those who lost homes in North Haven. Friends and relatives searched for victims in the rubble while rescue workers freed others from buildings and from cars overturned in a ditch along Interstate 40. Downed power lines, twisted metal, debris and road signs littered the ground, and traffic was backed up for miles. Another tornado touched down in southeastern Missouri.
