The State : Roberti to Push Toy Gun Ban

Senate President Pro Tem David A. Roberti (D-Los Angeles) reiterated his plans to introduce a bill to make the manufacture, sale or brandishing of realistic-looking toy guns a felony offense when the 1988 Legislature convenes Jan. 4. In a statewide radio address, Roberti, who first announced this intention last October, also urged parents not to purchase such guns as Christmas presents for their children in order to reduce the risk of accidents that have resulted in deaths and injuries. He noted that the cities of Los Angeles, Burbank and Santa Monica have already outlawed the sale and manufacture of realistic-looking toy guns, that a major toy store chain has announced it no longer will carry them and that federal legislation is pending.
