Anaheim plans to set up sobriety checkpoints Friday and Saturday nights, only the second time such checkpoints have been set up in the county since the state Supreme Court decided in October that the practice is constitutional if agencies follow certain guidelines. Roadblocks were temporarily halted by the courts in 1986 pending a ruling on their constitutionality.

Officers at the stops (the locations will not be announced in advance) will glance at each car and wave it through if the driver appears to be sober. Those suspected of driving under the influence will be directed to a secondary point and administered a field sobriety test. Those who fail will be arrested.
