Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s 25-concert Christmas Festival, a major source of revenue for the ensemble, has been canceled as a result of a continuing strike by the Detroit Federation of Musicians Local 5, the orchestra’s management said. The two sides met for four hours but failed to resolve differences that resulted in a work stoppage that began Sept. 21. The union is accusing management of having “no commitment to funding a first-rate orchestra.” Orchestra management says it can’t afford union demands.
