FARGO, N.D. — Firefighters revived a boy who spent 40 minutes underwater after falling through thin ice late Friday, and his doctor was optimistic about the 11-year-old’s chances of recovery.
Dr. William Norberg said that Alvaro Garza remained in extremely critical condition Saturday at St. Luke’s Hospitals but that the boy had improved dramatically and was responsive.
Garza was given only a 10% chance of survival after he was pulled from about 12 feet of water in the Red River, Norberg said.
