Ellis Quits as Thousand Oaks’ Tennis Coach
Gail Ellis, who led Thousand Oaks to four Marmonte League championships, resigned Tuesday as coach of the girls tennis team. She had an overall record of 74-14 in four years.
“I really enjoyed coaching at Thousand Oaks,†Ellis said, “but I’m giving up coaching to spend more time with my children.â€
Ellis, 29, guided the Lancers to the Southern Section finals in 1984 and 1986 and to the semifinals in 1985. Thousand Oaks finished last season as the Marmonte League co-champions and lost to La Canada in the first round of the playoffs.
“I was telling my husband the times we reached the finals I was pregnant,†Ellis said, laughing. “That’s too much pressure.â€
Ellis said she may return to coaching when her two children are older.
