Bing and Wife Fly to N.Y.
LONDON — Sir Rudolf Bing and his wife today flew to New York, where the courts have declared the former opera impresario incapable of handling his $900,000 estate due to Alzheimer’s disease and proceedings have begun to annul the couple’s marriage.
“I like New York,†the 85-year-old former head of New York’s Metropolitan Opera said at Heathrow Airport when reporters asked why he was returning.
Bing kissed his 48-year-old wife for the benefit of photographers and said he hopes to get things sorted out when they arrive in the United States. The two have been married 11 months.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Blyn ruled earlier this year that Bing “is afflicted with senile brain degeneration, or Alzheimer’s disease†and unable to care for his $900,000 estate.
