O’Neill Has Prostate Surgery
BOSTON — Former House Speaker Thomas P. (Tip) O’Neill Jr., 74, who had successful surgery for rectal cancer just two weeks ago, was said to be in excellent condition today after surgery to remove an enlarged prostate.
“The Speaker is doing beautifully,†Jerome P. Richie, who performed the surgery, said after the 90-minute operation at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Richie said there was no indication the portion of the prostate that was removed was cancerous but pathology tests would be conducted.
