British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has dropped plans for visits to five African countries after warnings that she might not be welcome, a British newspaper reported. The Sunday Telegraph said Thatcher’s insistence that South Africa could resist sanctions over its racial segregation policies was a factor in all the cancellations of visits planned early next year. Thatcher will go ahead with a four-day visit to Kenya, but the report said she would not visit Nigeria or four countries bordering South Africa--Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Botswana. There was no immediate comment from Thatcher’s office.
