In a rematch of last year’s Southern Conference championship game, El Toro High School (10-2) will meet Santa Ana (11-1) on Friday in a conference semifinal game at Santa Ana Stadium.
Like last year, El Toro will be led by quarterback Bret Johnson and Santa Ana will be powered by running back Robert Lee. In 1986, El Toro defeated Santa Ana, 26-10, to win the conference title.
In the other Southern Conference semifinal Friday, Mission Viejo (11-1), which lost to El Toro in last year’s semifinal, will be host to Los Alamitos (11-1) at Orange Coast College.
In the Central Conference semifinals, Anaheim (9-2-1) plays Saddleback (7-4-1) at Glover Stadium and Valencia (10-2) plays Pacifica (9-2-1) at Bolsa Grande.
One Orange County team remains in the Big Five Conference playoffs. In a matchup of playoff spoilers, Fountain Valley (8-4) faces Long Beach Wilson (7-4). On Friday, the Barons surprised previously undefeated Bishop Amat, 42-14, and Long Beach Wilson upset Loyola, 23-7. Long Beach Wilson is the designated home team, but the game’s site is still undetermined.
Woodbridge (11-1), the remaining Orange County school in the Desert-Mountain playoffs, travels to central California to play Atascadero High School (10-2) in Atascadero.
